Another reason

One of the reasons that I like staying home with my kids is that I get to spend all day with them, so I know where they are coming from when they say something random. If you didn't know the details of what we had been doing all day, things like this wouldn't make a lot of sense.

"Mom, this light is where they buried Jesus on my sword."

"I'm a green Blue."

"HA! I got you! Tangle web comb!"

But I get it.

It seemed like a good idea at the time

My boys hate having their hair cut, but they like playing with face paint. I thought "Hey, let's give them oil-based, sticky, impossible-to-wash-off things to keep them happy while I scatter small pieces of hair in their faces."

For the record, bad idea.

I expect a written apology

And flowers.

Practice, practice, practice

So, If you've read a parenting book recently, you will know that in order to ease transitions with young children, you need to give warnings so they know what to expect. This is the way we do it at our house:

Me - "OK guys, you have a few more minutes to play at Grandma's and then it will be time to go home. Let's practice. When Mommy says "It's time to go." what are you going to say?"

Four-year-old - "OK, Mommy!"

Three-year-old - "Bad Mommy!"

Me - "Excuse me?"

Three-year-old - "Bad Mommy!"

Me - "Try again."

Three-year-old (Mumbling) - "OK, Mommy."

If I wasn't me, I would wish I was me

This is my angel baby

She giggles at her brothers as they run crazy through the house. With no prodding from me, she eats every three hours on the dot. She sleeps through the night (at least 9 hours, usually 12). Her new trick is to coo really loudly when she is tired. This is my signal to put her down in her bed where she promptly falls asleep. I'm a total whimpy-mommy so I don't do the whole "let them cry it out thing." She learned this all on her own - probably because if she sleeps in her cradle instead of in the sling she won't be jumped on by a brother before she is ready to wake up. And as a bonus, I get to wake up to this beautiful smile every morning.

Then I get to play with the two sweetest boys in existance. (Not actually anyone's birthday, just an excuse to eat cake and play with fire - what's not to love?)

And at the end of the day, I get to cuddle up with the most perfect man I've ever met.

You can be jealous of me now.

Ya win some.. . .

I spent the bulk of this morning bottling peaches with my sister. My family doesn't really like peaches, but I figured that if I just kept offering (and hiding them in smoothies) they would get eaten. I'm always looking for more ways to add fruits and veggies, plus they were free from my Grandma's tree. Thanks Grandma!

Bottling peaches isn't hard, but it does require a lot of standing up. I left my sister finishing up and hurried home so I could watch my neighbor's kids. By the time the extra kids went home (late) I was so exhausted that I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open. It isn't very often that loading my kids into the car to pick up a pizza sounds easier than making french toast - but tonight, well. . . .

Lets just say that in my effort to eat more healthy foods I sometimes barely break even.
