Kid's got a point

The sun came out for a day or two this week. It wasn't THAT warm, but still I told my boys to put their shoes on and go outside.

Me - "Look! The snow is mostly melted and the sun is out. Put your shoes on and go jump on the trampoline." (we were at Grandma's)

Him - "No. I want to play the Wii."

Me - "But look how nice it is outside."

Him (in a tone of mixed exasperation and patience, an "I-can't-believe-I'm-having-to-explain-this-again," voice that I can only assume he has heard VERY frequently from my own mouth)
"Mom. It is February. I am NOT going outside. It is freezing out there. "

And considering that I wasn't willing to bundle up and go outside with him. . . I didn't force the issue.

Awwwwww

We were all sick over Valentine's day. So the children and I lounged around in our PJ's all day while John went to church. I love Valentine's day, so we needed to do something special. I made everyone a "mailbox" and hung them on our bedroom doors. Then I made valentines to put in them. The boys wrote their names on a couple of their superhero valentines and added them (with the matching pencils) to everyone's boxes.

After a while, my oldest noticed that my box was mostly empty. "Mom, you don't have very many valentines."

"That is because I am the one who made all the cards for everyone else's boxes. But I didn't make any for me."

"Oh."

The next time I went upstairs I noticed that my mailbox was FULL. He wrote my name on all the rest of his valentines and filled my box (and my heart).

So if you see me writing Spider-man pencils, it is because I have an entire set - and my boy loves me.

Also, I know this picture is blurry, but it was so sweet! I had to capture it, but I didn't want to wake them.

Awesome, brilliant and devious

Yup, that's me.

I've decided to teach the baby that the word for milk is "Da-da."

Then when she is hungry in the middle of the night, I can nudge my husband and say, "She wants YOU."

Thats PRINCESS baby to you

We've had an "off" couple of days, and I know she wasn't feeling well, but I just couldn't make the baby happy this morning. She didn't want to eat or sleep or play or cuddle. She was just cranky. She kept crawling into the bathroom, but could not seem to find what she wanted.

Finally I decided that as long as she was there, I might as well do her hair. So I plopped her down in front of the mirror and put a pony-tail on top of her head. She sat very still. As soon as I was done, she grinned at herself in the mirror and started babbling. . . baaa baaa daaaa da!

She may not feel great, and things are not going according to plan, but at least she looks cute.

Yeah, that is MY child.

math and science

sick kids + rainy day = He-Man marathon

yahoo!

And I realized that I REALLY need to get out when He-man saves a bunch of people from an erupting volcano by riding his hovercraft over it and shooting laser rays to cause a rock slide and cover up the top of the volcano and I think:

"That could never happen, the volcano would just shoot the rocks back out."

Never mind the flying, magical, anatomically incorrect, characters cavorting around the screen - the volcano thing would never work.
